What is a good basic furniture construction book. I have Taunton’s Furniture and Cabinet Construction. Lots of nice clear pictures. But I wanted to see just how one constructs the leg to apron joints – nothing. Needless to say, that is disappointing for what the title purports.
I am a beginning woodworker. Where can one learn the basics?
Thanks…

Hi Bares,
We're kind of partial to this question because The Taunton Press has been publishing woodworking books for more than 20 years, but I think most woodworkers would agree that Tage Frid's book set is a trusted source for just about anything that has to do with furniture construction.

Taunton also publishes an excellent series called The Complete Illustrated Guide to... The books in this series include more photos and illustrations than Frid, which is heavier on the classic nuts-and-bolts techniques.

A few years ago I put together this article for the magazine with book recommendations from dozens of our contributors and editors. Check it out for some older and more obscure titles.
