I’m starting a new furniture manufacturing business and I’m trying to find a CAD program. I’ve done a lot of work on, but don’t own, AutoCad. I want 3D rendering capability and hopefully it will be easier than AutoCad 3D. Price is important (sub 1k). Recommendations and warnings will be welcomed.

jgallish, checkout this website. The Pro/Desktop is a pretty good program, as are some of the others. And the price is right....

Thanks! I'll check it out.

If you're familiar with AutoCAD, you might want to take a look at IntelliCAD 4. The commands are much the same and you should be up to speed quickly. The price is reasonable, too- about $300 for the version with solid modeling capability. The downside is the 3D won't be any easier. http://www.cadopia.com// http://intellicadms.com http://www.autodsys.com

I use Ashlar -Vellums Graphite 6.4. Its a monster of a program. The have other programs that do 3D solids .Graphite will let you do 3D wire frame . It's so user freindly compared to Auto Cad. I had Auto Cad light but gave up because the learning curve was so steep I paid around $600 dollars for Graphite. You can visit their web sige www. ashlar-vellum.com and I think you can even down load a version to test drive for acouple of weeks. I think that AUTO CAD has been trying to get their hands on the "drafting assistant" trade mark to the software because it'so easy to use.
Thanks. This is a great site. Jeff
Dear Jgallish:
I use DeltaCad. It does not have 3D capability, as far as I know, but it only costs $39.95 and is extremely easy to use. It is the tool of choice for me for doing drawings which I can then easliy print out full size on pieces of paper that tile together. BTW, I always do full scale drawings before doing a piece of furniture.

Good luck
