I have a chance to pick up a Delta Deluxe 6-inch jointer with 1-hp motor and open stand. It is a model 37-190. for $225.
I am not familiar with this one and not sure if this a snap it up or pass it by deal.
Anyone use or know anything about this one? any help would be appreciated.
I understand this model has some issues with the screws holding the knives, the lever knobs breaking and the ability to fine adjust the beds and that Delta has since replaced it with a newer version that sells new for $380. Given all that and that I can get a new Grizzly with enclosed stand for $350 is it still a good deal or should I save up my pennies and go for the new Gizzly?
Thanks to all.
1 – measure the board twice, 2 – cut it once, 3 – measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 – get a new board and go back to step 1

Rick503, I'd pass on it. The extra money for the new one, will seem like money well spent later on. Been there done that.

$225 isn't a great deal for that machine IMHO. It's Delta's lighter weight 6" jointer that's now been rebadged as their shopmaster line. Lowes carries it for about $350, but last year was clearancing them for ~ $250. If it's your max budget and is the only game in town, I've read of others being pleased with it, so at least it's a functional machine. The knocks at full price relative to the competition is that it's 3/4hp vs 1hp, open stand, and the fence support mechanism is lighter weight than what's on the Jet, Grizzly, GI, PM, Ridgid, Bridgewood, Sunhill, Woodtek and several others.
