   I've used the Hardwood Connection in Sycamore, and Twin Oaks Hardwoods in Sinsinawa, WI. There are many others if you're in the Chicago area, but I moved  from there about 5 yrs ago and I'm not sure if they're all still open.

   I now live in Galena, in the very north west corner of the state. I now buy most of my wood at Twin Oaks and I think their prices are very fair. The wood has always been good. Its all planed hit or miss and the will plane it to whatever thickness you want. I think Hardwood Connection is closer to you but I think their prices are higher.    hey maddog, don't know why you dislike des plaines (the store or the town)but did you know Tatoo from Fantasy Island is from there.

   like Johnny Carson would say......I.......did not know that ? do you suppose they erected a lifesize statue , or just magnetic hood ornaments ...... harI used to work around the airport back in the late 1900s....and it always seemed to me that town had no idea where or what it wanted to BE..
   . main streets that just became one way..
   ..or took off on some goofy tangent into a neighborhood....
   no buffers between business and residential areasthen again it might have been the herbs...:>)

   John I live near the cheese curtin in Fox Lake  and use Kettle Moraine Hardwoods Inc. Hartford, WI - Home Page: Hardwood Lumber, Wisco or Hanson & Leja Lumber Company for hard wood Kettle is closer just up I 94 about 1 hour from me h& l is in Watertown a 2 hour ride so I only use them for really large orders that I split with 2 other woodworkers  Jerry
