Hello,
My dentist arranged for me to go to her mother’s land and look at two walnut trees. The land covers 1000 acres. The two walnut trees are pretty large for this area, but not nearly as big as those in CA. She said I could cut down any tree that I wanted. I quickly decided that the two walnut trees had myt name on them. I have a couple of friends and my son lined up to help me. I am making a rocking horse for my dentist’s son that will be one in October. I have a tree cutting service lined up. We are going to cut them down and put them on a trailer in 8 to 10 foot lenghts. The tree cutting people would go out there for a price, but I don’t want them to find out about the land. There is a pecan tree out there that is about 8 to 10 foot diameter. It is the biggest tree I have ever seen in this area of North Central Texas, much less the biggest pecan tree that I have ever seen. It would make several wonderful tables, but I think it would be a sin to cut it down. I did tell the land owner that if lightning ever strikes the tree, let me know.
My question is what do tree cutting people charge per hour in your area?
thanks,
10fingers

I looked at black walnut "yard" tree which was free to anyone willing to take it down. It's still there. It's pretty big, about 3-1/2' at the base. Unfortunately it sits right next to the house and the canopy overhangs the nieghbors yard and house. The electrical service wire runs right through it also. It also hangs over a well used sidewalk. Then I wasn't sure I'd find a sawyer willing to cut it into lumber due to potential surprises that are sometimes imbeded in these yard trees.
I'm guessing that it would cost $1000 to 2000 to get it out of there and clean up. Then there is all that nice lumber.
What do you think?

Good luck with your trees I am sure you will revel in the excitement of finding out "what's inside".
A reminder - when you have it sawn, be sure to cut some 12 and 16 quarter material for legs. I received a gift of 1,000 bd ft of walnut - but all 4 quarter.
