I just received my late grandfather’s Delta Unisaw. I can’t find a serial number but from the research I have done it could be from the 40’s. My uncle told me the motor can be a 2 phase but it currently is not. He also warned me that it has a greater rpm of saws today and not to just put any blade on it. It needs a new fence so I planned on buying a Besemeyer. The rest of the saw is in good shape, I want to clean up the cabinet but not restore it. The table is has a little corrosion and I would like to restore it to working order. I am going to use it in my small shop and it is going to replace a 4 year old Craftsman contractors saw with a cast iron top and wings.
Am I doing this saw justice???
Can anybody help me with the things I want and need to do to it?

I purchased an old unisaw that was in a friends barn. I removed the rust from the table, cleaned and painted everything. I installed a new motor with link belts. I junked the OEM fence and replaced in with a Biesemeyer commercial fence system. I also installed a shop built router table on my right side. I bought the saw for$!00.00 and spent about $500.00 and have a $1800.00 - $2000.00 saw. You can't go wrong! You'll love it! (not to mention the keeping it in the family factor) Ther are several articles on table saw set up (You should read and check your settings for square etc.) Good Luck!!

I don't believe the rpm is any higher than the new saws. Not signifigant enough to make any difference in blade choice. I think you will like the Biesemeyer fence a lot. Don't wastr the money on link belts for this saw. Cog type belts are fine and just buy three from the same place. No need to spend extra for matched belts. You really only need one belt. Three belts is overkill and Delta knows that but if they put a single pulley on it folks would jump to the conclusion they were cheapening the saw. Used to work as a tech and had close ties to the regional sales reps and tech department. Also all the big panel saws have 9 hp motors and single belts and they have no problems with loss of power with one belt.
