Hello I read the article in fine wood working this month and have a question they say that they use silicon carbonate for an abrasive on a polished granite tile to sharpen chisels. Where on Earth do you get the stuff needed to do that and if I could get a list of necessary compounds that would be great.

Ther's a supplier with a phone number in the text on the second page of the article.

One supplier of the silicon-carbide and aluminum-oxide powders, Willmann-Bell Inc. (804-320-7016), is listed in the article on pg. 42. I'm sure you could find other suppliers and compare prices by doing a simple Google search.

Here's a link to the Abrasives EZ Search web site (yes there is such a thing). They list 92 different companies to get the abrasive powders you're looking for.
