My dad used to use these bits when he made trophy bases out of walnut (yes they used to use real wood for trophy bases). He recently gave his last remaining 2 to me and (of course) I broke one.
Check these bits out – they’re great.

I do not own stock in Lee Valley (though I wish I did)…

"...and (of course) I broke one." Wow, how'd you do that?!
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Had it in a hand drill - drilling through floor joists to run some wires and snapped the point off :-( (It was my dad's idea to use it for drilling the beams... he thought it worked easier than the speed bores). I switched over to my cheap speed bores after that...Mark

drilling through floor joists to run some wires ??
LOL.. Gee Forest was that for DC current from Edison?
Sorry.. I had to...
Will,
I see your LOL but I don't get the joke? Maybe I'm slow...My basement ceiling (in part of the basement) is essentially attached directly to the Floor joists above - no clearance so I had to put the wires to my shop up higher...Mark

SORRY I DID not mean to piss ya off..
I was just thinking of at the time I had to drill into ALOT of rafters to put some PEX tubing in there!
Again.. NO HATE HERE..
My first Job (After the Army) was setting up Brown-Sharp screw machines.. I learned the HARD way to sharpen drills..
I hardly ever get any tear-out on the face.. Metal or Wood...
By the way.. Brad points for wood ROCK!. Really hard to sharpen!

Probably to much Jack? / I don't know?
Great "anti tear out" drill bit..
Gee a backer board works OK!
Not knockin' LeeValley but...
I meant on the top of the cut, not the back of the cut. These bits work like forstners (for cutting the outside of the hole not the flat bottom) only faster and you can run them at higher speeds - awesome in a drill press...Mark

Powerbore bits only work well on soft wood, try one in some 3" Maple and watch the smoke screen. Like the good old days in HS Shop. The prolferation of hardwoods be readily availble soon forced these bits out of the market, along with the great stanley countersink bits that were one piece,
