Hello all,
I converted my HVLP gun to use the 3M PPS system. I have a Fuji turbine system with a pressure cup under the gun. The PPS set up for pressure cups is not easy to find but Homestead finishing has the kit; and at a very good price. I got the start up kit for $120 I think.
The set up replaces your current cup (gravity cup, pressure cup and several cup sizes are available) with a clear plastic cup that uses flexible, disposable liners. The liners are not like the plastic bags previously available. They are a little thicker and made from a supple vinyl like material that will collapse completely to empty all the finish, but they can stand up on their own even when full of finish. The liner is sealed by a disposable cap so no part of the plastic cup needs cleaning. The plastic cup also uses a quick disconnect system to come off the gun. The result is that after spraying all you have to clean is the fluid passage, and this can be done with a simple squeeze bottle using very little solvent. I can clean my gun completely with only 4 to 8 ounces of solvent, before I needed to have twice that just to get the solvent into the fluid tube. I don’t even “spray” the solvent now, the squeeze bottle works better than using the air.
Other advantages and built in filter in the liner lid, I can spray at any angle (even upside down), less contamination of the finish, unused finish can be stored in the sealed liner for later use, adding thinner or retarder can be done without opening the cup and there are a lot more.
The liners are cheep too compared to the cost of solvent or the old style disposable liners.
Go to 3M’s web site and they have a video showing the system in use. I think that Homestead also has it on their site.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike
Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don’t have. You won’t regret it.
