There is a Powermatic 66 for sale on Craig’s List in my area and I was wondering if there are any particular pitfalls or benefits to one that is in a green housing?
Thanks,
Jonathan

You can read comments from others who have older Powermatic machines here:

The green machines were made in Tennessee, and are very fine table saws. Of course, user abuse will be the key, as that machine is like 15 years old or older. Check it out first, but go for it. You should be able to buy it for less than half of what a new one costs.

One thing you might consider is, Does it have a motor cover? and Does it have the Accu-Fence or Biesemeyer fence? You would probably have to pay retail prices for them if bought later.
I had a green PM66 that I just restored after 35 yrs. of use. I bought it new. I am not a pro but I build quite a bit of furniture and I built two houses(all the trim, cabinets, doors and flooring with that saw and the bearings went out just two years ago. Check for abuse, and make sure it is not 3 phase, but otherwise the arbor bearings are not that tough to replace, about $70. Get sealed and not shielded bearings if it needs them. The other post is right about the fence, if it is not a biesmeyer type replacement is $300. All things to consider. I gave that saw to my son and bought a Laguna TS and wish I had it back.
