Hi,
I’ve been woodworking for quite a few years and having just finished a dining table, am thinking of making chairs. Does anyone know, short of going out and felling a tree myself, how I can go about finding green wood (I live in central North Carolina)?
Thanks,
Rich

MAC,
A buddy of mine who builds windsors for a living, gets his green stock at a local sawmill. Buys a log before it is sawn, and busts it into manageable billets right there in the mill yard. Load it up, take it home, and build a set of chairs.

Ray
Rich, If you are wanting to rive the wood out of the log, check your yellow pages for "tree services, or arborist" and give them a call. Some of them will usually give you the wood from the trees that they are taking down if you show up with a truck or trailer. If not that way, find out where they are taking it to dump and search there.
If that doesn't work you may find a firewood cutter who will sell you what you are after.
Maybe even best of all you could look for a small sawmill, and get them to custom saw what you are after.
Chairs are made of green wood?
