Well my tablesaw is rusty now. I made the mistake of ripping some green wood. Word of caution, green wood will make a mess of cast iron in less that 30 minuets.

Sounds like you should give your tablesaw a thorough coat of wax. I do this once a month so as to keep up the saws condition. I don't think there is a solution for blade.
I do feel your pain, and am thankful that my lesson learned about this subject was on a cheap saw and not my PB.

Yep, waxing would have really helped you out there. And perhaps wiping down with mineral spirits immediately afterward. Sorry you're faced with a rust-removal job, but at least it's light rust, yes?

At first I thought is was red saw dust from the cherry but it was just light rust. Are there other dry woods that have oxidizers in them?

Yup, just came up from working on the TS. Yesterday the mailbox broke and my spouce bought some pressure treated stuff...I could feel the spray on my hand as I made lap joints ...wore a respirator..
Now I need to vac the cabinet and get all those wet particles out of my shop.

You can imagine what turning green wood on a lathe is like! I've found that scotchbrite pads and RD90 work well to remove the rust. Even so far as putting a pad of scotchbrite under the orbital sander.

Joe,
Yes!, Been there, done that, the 30 minute version and the one weekend to the next version, what a mess. Maybe I'll learn, usally clean up each day and watch out for that and leaving the damp rag in the wrong spot, DOH!
Sweating beer and soda cans, doh!
Enjoy, Roy
Even a coffe mug. Betrayed by coffee, yikes!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
0000 steel wool and some varsol will take the rust right off. After that rub on a coat of paste wax and you'll be fine. I had the same thing happen to my bandsaw when I was resawing some green logs.
