Just received the Greene and Greene Bed Plans with detailed drawings, they look very thorough. I am a bit confused by one item however. I don’t understand how the bed bolt screws into the bed rail, is it a threaded insert? and what is the cross dowel for on the bed rail?

Are you referring to the Gamble House bed by Martin McClendon? If so, the cross dowel is the threaded insert for the bolt. It is a metal cylinder with a threaded hole drilled through it. They are included with the bed bolts specified in the plan.
