Curtis, greenheart (Ocotea rodiaei) is a South American member of the same family as camphorwood and our native sassafras; the laurel family: Lauraceae. This family is known for its potent extractives and greenheart is no exception in that it can be an irritating wood to work with. It's an extremely dense, strong timber comparable in weight to ipe, or even some of the rosewoods and it has excellent decay resistance.
