My wife and I are planning a move to Greensboro, North Carolina in the spring/summer of 2025. Anyone on here from the area that has information or opinions on any lumber mills, wood working stores or clubs in the area? Hopefully we can find a house where I can set up my shop or store my things until we can build something. Moving our house hold will have some stress of course, but moving my shop with several heavy pieces of machinery may require professional movers. Any thoughts and info are appreciated. thanks!

My daughter lives in Greensboro and I've shopped for lumber at GPS Hardwoods. Excellent selection, good guy to work with. Daughter mentioned Sawtooth in Winston-Salem, an arts collective with woodworking classes. ...Tom
I live in Greensboro and am a hobbyist woodworker. Greensboro has lost a few woodworking stores in the past several years. Closest decent best one now is Klingspor in Winston-Salem--also where Sawtooth is that another responder listed. Two decent wood sources not far off: Steve Wall Lumber in Mayodan, NC and The Hardwood Store of NC in Gibsonville, NC. Greensboro has a makerspace: The Forge--you can check it out online: forgegreensboro.org. You might also be interested in the NC Woodworker forum (ncwoodworker.net). If you like, contact me at [email protected]. Steve
Thanks Steve. I looked up the forum you suggested and will be joining that before we move in the spring/summer. I've also written down your email along with the other info and may be in touch before and after we move. Thanks again!

Second what spuckett said. Klingspor is about a 30-minute drive from my home just north of Greensboro. I've found it to be a pretty well outfitted store for tools/supplies and the folks there are helpful. I've purchased lumber from The Hardwood Store of NC (again, about 30 minute drive for me) and feel as though they have a good selection. Haven't been to Steve Wall lumber, but a friend of mine gives it positive reviews.
Another vote for The Hardwood Store of NC in Gibsonville. Good selection with reasonable prices.
A note on moving: Just getting a few guys and a truck to haul out my basement shop TS and replace it with a new one from the local woodworking store was astronomically expensive. It's just me, but if I ever hafta move out of town, I would seriously consider selling the big heavy stuff and starting over.
When I got into woodworking in the SF Bay Area, I didn’t know where anything was despite having lived here most of my life. When I joined a local woodworking club, I quite easily found about all the local resources. If you can find a local woodworking club, I’d suggest joining it for similar reasons plus it’s a good way to build a community around you in a new location with similar hobbies.
Another vote for Hardwood Store of NC in Gibsonville. Fine people, fair prices.
