Has anyone purchased a digital scale from Grizzley (similar to the 12″ Wixey digital scale but, yes, cheaper)? I want to know if the addage “you get what you pay for” applies in this case. Grizzley has a 12″ digital scale that seems to have the preset and zeroing features of the Wixey, but costs about $10 less for the 12″ model. Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't jump ship on Wixey to save $10. Near as I can tell, Wixey is a small outfit that develops useful and well-made accessories to help ease the woodworker's life. The owner of Wixey actually solicited here at Knots for people to do trial runs on the table saw scale. He's real, in other words.
Not that I'm beyond saving money by going off-shore. I have an $18 digital caliper bought from Harbor Freight. Does the job quite well, and costs a fraction of any other caliper available at the time I bought it.

I agree with FG. For $10 I would go with the company that has proven its commitment to the wwing enthusiast. Haveing said that I am sure that the Grizzly is more accurate than necessary, so any difference between it and the Wixley would be irrelevant.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike

Been thinking about this this morning, wondering just how close the Grizzly model is to the Wixey, and what the possibilities are that someone in China has violated internation patent law. No accusing, just wondering.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I have been acused of being altruistic...... I doubt that there are any patents being violated if it is sold by Grizzly. They have too much to loose.
Also the use of a digital caliper/ height gauge has been around for a looong time. Planers, Drill Presses, belt/drum sanders, and other such machines commonly have the same setup.Pardon my spelling,
