I’m looking to upgrade from the small benchtop delta jointer I have now to a floor model. Apparently I’m going to need one. I have looked at the Grizzley 6″ jointer model G0526 it has spiral head cutters. Are the spiral head cutters that much of an advantage over the steel or carbide blades? Also has anyone seen or posted a review on that Grizzley model or can tell me anything about it. Pro-Cons over the Delta and or Jet models. Grizzley price for this model is $895. Delta and Jet for a 6″ jointer are between $600-$700 ( but not spiral heads ) Thanks for you help.

Greetings,
Since your already upgrading from a benchtop jointer to a stationary jointer, you really might want to consider a 8 inch jointer rather than a 6 inch machine, unless you are building small items the 8 inch size is much more useful.
Seems to me, the more useful place to have a spiral head (or shelix) head would be in the planer rather than the jointer, since the planer is going to 'undo' the work of the spiral cutter of the jointer anyway.
Best of luck
Rwayne,
Last month FWW did a jointer reveiw and had a video clip on the home page here..you might want to watch the video. In the current Tools & Shops issue there is an article about the Grizzly GO586 which is 8" for $625

How do I get to the review on the jointer and I can't find the Video. Can you help ?
Thanks
Rwayne,
Wow !! this was hard to find...
http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/pages/wvt118.aspThe 0526 was not available for the review...so FWW reviewed it in the latest issue of Shops. However, the 526 appears to be an upgrade from the 500...which was rated the 'best buy'..and the York as the 'best value'...as I recall..
