I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with the Grizzly 16″ 1073 bandsaw. It does seem to be quite a lot of saw for the money, however the name scares me.I have been out of the tool market for a few years– has Grizzly got it’s act together on this one?Any response would be appreciated.

Do a search of the other posts/threads regarding Grizzly tools. How long ago are the reviews from? If they're not recent, why bother reading them, they don't apply. If their tools were really bad, they wouldn't be in business(unless it was a tax write-off).
I've got this bandsaw.Have it over 4 years now, excellent saw. I use it about 4 to 5 hours a week, 5 or 6 days a week since I bought it. Resaw capacity is 7 3/4", no riser block available as the column is one piece cast iron.Easy to track, I use the original guides, no need for carter or other upgrades.2 hp motor, mine is wired 220, I am not sure if it could be wired 110 volts.
I had to replace the switch last year, about $3.00, shipping cost more than the switch.I have used from 3/16" to 1" blades on this machine. I wouldn't bother going wider than 3/4" ,even for resawing. 1" blades are a pita to install. You have to remove the upper and lower guide assembly completely to install.
This saw is HEAVY, about 450 lbs. If you want to move it around ,get the shopfox mobile base . I tried a Delta at first, could hardly move the machine. Shopfox mobile base moves it easily.

Mike,
Thanks for the info.Like I said,Its been a few years (12!) since I've been in the market for any stationary machinery. It seems that over the years Grizzly has stepped up their quality. When I started woodworking for a living in the mid 80's,I was hearing of people getting burned right and left by this company.Anyhow,I guess I'm going to get the 1073.It couldn't perform any worse than what I'm using now! Thanks again for the response.

Luke, get help or devise a way to lift with a comealong the bandsaw on to the stand.
I used a comealong from a timber across the stair opening to the loft in my shop. The cast iron saw itself without the motor or stand is probably 350 lbs. You'll love this saw. I have used various bandsaws over the last 43 years, this is as good or better than any I personally used.If you hear a squealing sound on start up , spray the motor shaft and pulley with a lubricant like wd-40. I have to do this about twice a year.
