i’m wanting to upgrade my planer to 20″. any experience with the Grizzly 20″ planer? i have the grizzly jointer planer, which i love. but also had a grizzly lathe (sold) and have a grizzly drill press which i don’t like. their prices are hard to beat though.
any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Not all Grizz's created equal
One thing to note about Grizzly tools, they are not all created equal. From what I've gathered over many years of watching, their small tools are not as good as their big tools, and the low end is more apt to have problems that the mid- to upper-level in any given tool. I would expect their 20" planer to be a pretty decent machine, but you're smart to check the forum. I'd suggest checking several forums -- Sawmill Creek is a good one to peruse, very active membership. Here are some reviews at Woodweb:

Amazon only has 3 reviewers, but one of them wrote extensively. Are you getting the spiral cutterhead? Oops, my browser's about to crash, posting now.......

Griz planer
I have a 15" version with the griz spiral cutter. I have no issues with the machine, and it is a solid performer. The spiral cutter is a must in my book. Easy to switch the cutters, though it takes some time. Mine makes repetitive thickness that varies by only 5 thousands. So milling out rails and styles keeps even thickness in my stock. It hogs through dry hard Mesquite, or wet woods as well. Fairly quiet as well, I use mine in the slow feed and not the high speed range. My only issue, and that is the nature of the too, are the roller marks. Lots of little dimples from the feeder roller, so you need to sand those out, or plane them out.

thanks for your input. sounds like what i want. i've loved my 8" grizzly jpinter.
20" planer
I've used 3 different 20" grizzly planers- one is mine and the other 2 are in other's shops. I've seen thousands of boards go through these planers with very few problems and minimal adjusting. However, mine is the newest of the three and it is 10 years old. If the quality hasn't dropped off since I bought mine, I'd definitely recommend it.
