After 10 years of jointing boards with hand planes, I’m ready to get an 8″ jointer before I start building a set of kitchen cabinets. I’m looking at the Grizzly 490 and 656. There is a $200 difference between them, the 490 being the more expensive. It’s bed is 4″ longer than the 656 and it has parrallelogram tables. The 656 has a rack n pinion fence adjustment which is nice. Anyone have an opinion between these two jointers or know of others in this price range I should look at?
Thanks,
Lyptus

Grizzly Jointer
For what it's worth, we have the last version of the 656 Grizzly in our shop (Same machine, just no mobile base) And I can't complain about it too much. I don't get much ripple at all, and what I do get is remedied by a #4 real quick.
I don't regret buying it at all.
Hope this helps

choice of 656
Thanks for your input. What features or factors made you choose the 656 over the 490?
