I just purchased a baby drum sander from Grizzly. I have used it very little. Would like to hear comments from those who have used one long enough to express opinions.

I have had one for about 6 months or so. I have really enjoyed having it in the shop. It is a time saver when building face frames. I use it for final thickness for all of the frame stock. My planer leaves it about 1/64" thick and I take the rest off with the drum. Works very nice. I have also used it one a few drawer fronts that I made to smooth them out. Touch them up with a ROS to fix the cross grain stuff and they are good. Hope that you enjoy the new tool.

I bought mine to sand 1/8 inch stock for making mountain dulcimers. When I first tried it, I had trouble with the conveyor belt stopping. I finally loosened it a bit and it works O.K. Have you tried using a backer board for sanding thinner than 1/8?
I have not as of yet had the need to sand anything that small. I want to start playing with veneers at some point so I am sure that I will get there sometime. That is what I had planned on doing though.
