I am planning to purchase the G0555 bandsaw and see it comes with a free timberwolf blade (3 tpi). Is this a good blade for resawing (I will be getting the riser blocks)? I see a lot of posts that say to get rid of the cheap blade that comes with it. I am assuming this is not the blade people are talking about?
I am also getting the G1182HW jointer at the same time. Does anyone think the G1182HZW is absolutely worth the extra $75? Or have any other comments on this jointer, I have the delta 22-580 planer and plan to use the jointer mainly for putting nice square edges on boards. Any comments or other recommendaions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Shane

I own several Grizzly tools. I have been impressed with all my purchases so far. I can't answer your question about the jointer, but I can speak to Timber Wolfe Blades. If it's a Timber Wolfe blade don't chuck it! Those are good blades. I bought the G0513 17" and did as they say throw the stock blade away (was not a TW). Call Suffolk machinery and talk to them. When I bought mine, they were very helpful. For resawing. I use the 3/4 AS-S. They also have a blade for cutting green wood (blanks for turning or milling small logs). They will ask you what you are going to be using the saw for, and then recommend blades. They also have a sale that if you buy three blades you get a fourth free. They worked it out so I got the most expensive of the four free. Good deal. I have included the link to the special. Give them a call you won't be disappointed. Have fun with the new toys. I'm hoping a 8" jointer is in my future.

Shane,
Timberwolf is a fine blade, and definitely not a "throw-away". It sounds like Grizzly is responding to the comments about the blade they used to supply. If it's 3 TPI, 1/2" wide, that would be ideal for resawing.
HOWEVER, if it's a standard, 92.5" blade, it won't fit after you install the riser. Maybe you could see if Grizzly will suppply a 105" blade instead.
On the jointer, the only "Z" difference appears to be the welded vs. bolt-together base. I don't think it's worth $100 extra.

The Griz 1182ZHW/HW models are absolutely worth the money. I have the 1182ZHW and think the handwheels are worth every penny. They are much more precise then the levers.
My one warning about this model though: make sure you get a flat fence. It's way too important. If you can fork out an extra $200 bucks, Griz has an 8" model on sale (with levers not handwheels). I don't know the model number off hand.
There are also a couple of companies that offer after market blades that are helical. I'm looking forward to trying them out at some point (like $80 or something per set with cylinder).

I've had the G1182hw for about 4 years and have been very happy with it. From what I can tell the 1182"Z"HW offers the single-piece base, and the difference is a steep $100 according to their website.
I still like the 1182hw at $408 delivered, but at $508 for the "Z" delivered, I think I'd be considering the Delta 37-195 from Amazon for $530 delivered or possibly a GI 80-100 6" w/55" beds from a dealer for $529.

Save the blade just in case. I may be the only person in the USA that never had a problem with Grizzly blades. The Timberwolf blade is supposed to be excellent. I have not used them so far. I use the bandsaw a lot more than most people, maybe 6 or 7 total hours each week. I just keep on sharpening the Grizzly blades til theres not enough width of blade left. I've resawed at least 450 bf of cherry only stopping to sharpen twice.3 tpi is perfect, I use the same type blade.

please tell me more about your resharpening of bandsaw blades.. I simply chuck a blade when it gets dull I wasn't aware that you could resharpen them. would you describe how and what you use etc..
Frenchy, I sharpen resaw blades only. They have few teeth per inch, but other blades could be done the same way, just takes a lot longer.
First thing to consider, all bandsaw blades are filed straight across in the rip configuration.I sharpen the blades on the saw, make sure you vaccumn the dust first so you don't start a fire. I use a dremel tool with the cone shaped cylinders that are for sharpening chainsaws. After cleaning the dust, raise the upper guides all the way up. I use the dremel at the highest speed, with a push and pull motion. The grit on the cones is about an inch long,I try to use the entire length so i don't get to thin in the middle of the cone.
Hold the dremel level, push in with the grinding cone against the gullet ,pull out, push in ,pull out ( no wise cracks ,couldn't think of a better description). This is a total of 4 times, usually enough to get very sharp.Repeat with each tooth til done. You will find after 4 or 5 teeth you are an expert. The blade will be sharper than new. You will grind the gullets at the same time you sharpen the top of the tooth.
If you screw up a tooth or two, don't fret ,the blade will still cut better than new. You are sharpening with the teeth pointing down, keep the grinding cone snug to the tooth as you move the dremel in and out.I'll post a picture in a few days ,with my wife demonstrating it. Chec posts to MVAC , it will be in a reply there.

My neighbor got that Grizzley Jointer, at my suggestion, and absolutely loves it.

Shanel,
Please call Grizzly and confirm what happens when they send you a defective machine. Make sure you can send it back without incurring return shipping charges. And confirm with them that they will refund your original shipping charges when you return the machine.
Check back in after you hear from Grizzly!
Shanel:
I just bought the G0555 and I love it. The blade they ship on the saw is the cheap Grizzly blade. The Timberwolf blade is packaged separately. I am not sure if they ship a Timberwolf with the riser block.
As for future blade purchases, Suffolk Machinery is aces. If there is a better supplier for saw blades, I want their number.

Thanks to everyone who responded, based on these suggestions and all the others from the past I went ahead and ordered both machines. My only issue was that they would not substitute a timberwolf blade that would fit after installing the riser block. I did get ahold of Suffolk machinery and took advantage of the buy three get one free offer and they are very helpful, I just told them what saw I was getting and what I would be doing with it and the blades they recommended are on the way. Thanks again everyone, Shane
