Has anyone ever replaced the awful conveyor belt on a 24″ with other than a grizzly belt? If so what did you do? The one on the machine now just lets the wood slip and is way longer one the right side than the left.

Hi frimp
I've got that same machine. Would the tracking adjustment take up the slack? So the wood is slipping as it goes under the drums. What I have seen that causes this on mine is a build-up of sawdust under the ends of the pressure rollers. There is a spring assembly that pushes each end down into a metal cradle. Here is where it accumulates and won't let the pressure roller drop down far enough in relation to the drums. Try blowing these areas out with air ( total of 4 ) or small brush etc. The springs are fairly stiff so forcing them up with a small block of wood might help.

ps of course, make sure your machine is unplugged before attempting any adjustments

Thanks for the input!! I have the belt tracking right. The belt is so long one side that the rollers are very cocked to the machine and almost rub the holders. I will try cleaning the hold downs. I believe the slipping problem is (on my machine anyway) the dust on the wood or the belt. The belt is real slick because it is some what hardened over the years. It would be nice to find a good substitute.
Another thought just came to mind. Maybe your drum heads are set too low in relation to the pressure rollers. But with the conveyor belt as out of wack as it sounds, it probably is time to replace it. I've never had to replace mine so I have no experience here. Mine has been a love- hate relationship. Very finicky machine that can be frustrating at times but will also do what it's supposed to at a price that's very affordable. Someday, a wide belt sander!

Thanks PaulI hadn't thought of the pinch rollers being to high with respect to the drum. Is there a rule of thumb for the right distance?
If you have adjusted the drums in the past, they may have gotten adjusted too high, although I can't remember how much play there is. But, then again, there is quite a bit of vertical play in the pressure rollers . It could be a combination of this and sawdust build-up under the pressure roller ends. Do you feel good pressure under the first roller as a piece is fed in? Does your work piece slip more on one side than the other? If so, your drums may not be parallel to the table/feed belt . Check your manual for details on this, if you haven't already. If you don't have a copy, let me know and I'd be happy to send you a copy. Or, you can download a copy at Grizzly.com

Thanks Paul,
I do have it adjusted I believe drums to bed within.015". The main problem I have is on the last pinch roller. The piece seems to just hit it and stop and the belt keeps right on going. I have done a bit of work on the machine. It is much better than when I got it. I have a good idea for sand paper and the back drum adjustment, if you are interested. I do have a copy of the manual. Thanks for being so willing to help me!Rick
