I read all the shipping problems . How are the machines to use? Flatness of beds, fit and finish etc…? Recommend one over the other? Any problems or suggestions.
Thanks

I have a G0490. Had two problems in general: The belt cover at the back isn't the right size if you have a link belt... and the stock belt doesn't install correctly, because it puts the motor in a position where it can't be correctly secured.
I've run a number of boards through it, and it puts 'em flat. I've got the fence adjusted to square, and it puts the boards' edges at 90° too. That's all I want a jointer for, and it does it. :)
As to flatness of beds, it's pretty good within the limits of my ability to check it. I've only got a 24" straightedge though so I wouldn't detect some conditions on these pretty long beds.
I chose the 0490 because the price was about the same (once you figure in shipping charge differences, and saving $$ on a mobile base), but I liked the extra power, and the longer and 1" taller fence.
Thanks John. I'm leaning toward the 490. I appreciate the input.
