Grizzly G0555 And Blades
Hi All,
I’ve been experiencing problems with my Grizgog bandsaw lately. The problm is that the blades seem to stretch very quicky. Usually if I’ve left them under tension.
I just went through a new blade in no time at all – although I have to admit I’ve been resawing 5″ walnut quite a bit. However, the blade was working just fine yesterday but this morning it wont cut straight. I have the tension up to 3/4″ for a 1/2″ blade. (Vermont, in case anyone asks).
I can see three possibilites here :
1) I’ve overtensioned the blade
2) I should detension it overnight (my shop has no heat)
3) The blade is crap.
Does anyone have any feedback or similar experiences ?
thanks in advance
Simon

How do you know the blades are stretching? Is the tension going down by itself overnight?
It's a good idea to release the tension between uses, not so much for the blade's benefit as for the tires'. They can take a compression set.
There are some really good blades out there (Timber Wolf from Suffolk Machinery, Wood Slicer from Highland Woodworking, etc.). Using one of those is like night and day compared to an ordinary blade, especially when resawing.

that's one thing I wondered, I had a Timberwolf on before that lasted 2 years rather than the average life of 2 weeks I get from these Lowe's specials.

It's the blade.

"...Lowe's specials. " ROFL!!!! You're kidding, right? You replaced Timberwolf blades with "Lowe's specials." Out to the woodshed, you scoundrel.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I'll join in and bet on the blade. I have the griz 17" and while I try to remember to always remove the tension after use, I have forgot on ocasion. I've never had an issue with the Timberwolfe blades from Suffolk even with the stupid mistake.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Yes, the blade is the problem. I switched it for another (crap Vermont) blade and it works adequately. I also ordered two shiny new Timberwolf blades that should be here next week.
Thanks to all
Simon
