I am considering a G 1066 and would like feedback from users. Specifically, how well does the table align in relationship to the drums right and left( does it stay parallel), how accurate and easy is it to set the second roller and how well does the infeed belt track. I had a PerFormax 25″ dual drum and had problems with all of the issues listed above. Thanks for your assessment. Doug

Doug: I have been watching this thread hoping someone would respond. Well I have used the 1066 for about 10 years and have always had mixed feelings about it. As for the adjustments questions you have about the drums, it is a trial and error process to get them perfect but when accomplished they do stay that way. The belt is another story, I have never been able to get it to track straight. One time I use the sander the belt moves right, the next time left. Not really sure why. My biggest problem with the machine over the years has been with the way the sanding belts are attached to the drums. There is a clip on one end and tape on the other. It is not easy to install them. However, when everything is done right I have been able to sand a lot of wood with very good results. It is to be noted that one can not actually sand something 24 inches wide. Because of the tape system the maximum I have been able to go is about 23 inches. I think there is a hook and loop system available that might solve some of these issues.
This probably didn't help you much but it looks like I am the only Knots member with one of these.
I owned one and my former employer had one...I so dislike that machine! A pain to put on new paper, clips tended to come off, drums were hard to keep aligned, and when shop closed we were lucky to get $250.00 for the machine and it was almost new as no one liked to use it. Mine? Let it go within a month of purchasing it, tried to tell my boss of my experience with the G1066 and of course he knew better. One last thing, had two ports to hook-up your dustcollector, we had a 2hp grizzley and it would take a 5hp unit to move that dust with all the gaps that surrounded the drums.
Thanks to both of you for sharing your experienes. I decided to purchase the unit and after adjsuting it so far everything seems to track smoothly. I certainly agree about the paper attachment design and I recall reading a fix for this on another forum where they tapped a a hole in the "tape" end and secured the paper end with a bolt. Obviously you can't run the wood through this area but you cant with the tape either. The Performax unit I had used clips on both ends but they were a royal PITA to use and get the paper tight.
Anyway, thans again.
