Hi, I just bought an older grizzly planer (circa 1991) and I drained the gear box and want to put in fresh oil. The problem I’m having is Grizzly specs 100 weight gear oil and I can’t get just a quart of that locally. Everywhere I go or call says I have to order a case or 5 gallon bucket.
My questions are; 1, where do you buy small quanities of this oil?, and 2, can I get away with using 90 weight, or 85-140 weight which everyone has on the shelf? Thanks I advance, Matt

Have you contacted Grizzly to get their recommendations? They have good customer support, and would have the best advise.
You might also try an Amsoil dealer they have gear oil and probably sell it in smaller than 1 gallon containers. I think the 90 weight would work but call grizzly
Good luck
When I needed gear oil for my Grizzly spindle sander I went to NAPA and was able to get it in one gallon containers.
good luck

I did some onsite repairs on a steel city planer a while back and in the manual they didn't list the specs for what gear oil to put back in them. When I called the tech department, they told me they used 90 weight gear oil which is regular gear oil from NAPA or whomever.
