I am looking to Buy a new jointer and was wondering if anyone has used any of the grizzly 12″ spiral healical head jointers. If so are you happy with the performance of the machine? 1 ph 220.
Powermatic is out of reach as is delta.
Any pro’s or con’s ?

I have had the 8" version for 2 years and I'm very pleased with it.

Yes I am looking at the GO6098X Or the Higher dollar G9860ZX Z series.
2K more for the extra 2 rows of cutters and a lower amp's motor I just don't know enough about the Grizzly machines and the performance.
Powermatic is $1,550.00 more than the top Grizzly and made in the same country.
Fit and finish- v. good.
Table- dead flat.
Have not had to adjust the planarity on the tables since set up (I check now and then).
Belts are cheap- would prob. replace with linked belts.
Otherwise, no complaints. Really like the carbide cutterheads.Glaucon

I have the 10" with the Spiral Cutter and I really like it. I would have purchased the G0609X 12" Jointer w/ Spiral Cutterhead - if it were available when I purchased the 10". You can not go wrong with a SC and Griz makes a pretty darn-good machine.
I have not used the model you are interested in. I purchased a Grizzley 8" jointer about 2 years ago after FWW rated it a best buy. When I checked the fence for being square to the tables I found it was off by 1/32". I checked the fence at a machine shop and found it was not warped. Turned out the tables were not in the same plane. I contacted Grizzley and they recomended making shims from beverage cans. I did this, which required 3 shims on one side of the outfeed table and 4 shims on the other side of the outfeed table. The repair worked but I dont feel this indicates a qulaity machine. I have used the jointer maybe 3 hours total and it has developed a vibration. I suspect either belts or bearings. Cant imagine what home grown fix the Grizzley technichian will suggest.
I also have a Grizzley Bandsaw. The bandsaw works well for a $400 tool.
It's stories like this that make me go back to looking at Jet. Some sales are coming up. Jet708466DXK = 6" long bed (56") with Helical head = $849 plus 10% off that...
We have a woodworker show coming to town in Dec. Will check out options there too.
Sorry about your trouble. You shouldn't have to shim a new machine, but older machines often do get shimmed and work quite well for many years. Lee Valley sells brass sheets in various thicknesses that work quite well for this- I think they are less than $10.As for your vibration, I would check to see if the pulleys are in plane. Next, consider a linked belt to replace the originals, which aren't very good.Glaucon

I called Grizzly and found out the new 12" Jointer for around $2,200.00 will not be avalible till early next year. which really will not help me with the current project.
I guess I will wait it out.
Gives you time to arrange for the local high school football team to come over and wrestle it into your shop... you'll need them-Glaucon

You got that right. Lifting one of their jointeres off the floor onto the stand isn't an easy task.
Hi, I am considering the G0609X 12" Jointer w/ Spiral Cutterhead by Grizzly and I can't find a single user review. So I am following up on this discussion from last year to see if anyone has any first hand experience - or other recommendations! I too am sold on the carbide cutters - and at this time would be happy with the Taiwan made ones. Thanks - All!Phoebe
