I have decided on a cyclone dust collector but can’t decide on which company to buy it from. I am looking at a Onieda 3hp V-System based on the company’s recommendation, it has a 6 inch inlet and a company with a good reputation. The other machine is the Grizzly 3hp cyclone. It has a 8 inch inlet and better specs than the Onieda but not sure about the track record of the Grizzly dust collector. Can any of the folks on here have any experience with either dust collector. There is only a $250 difference between the two with the same whistles and bell.

I have the V 3000 series by Oneida and am very pleased with its performance and quality of workmanship and design. If you buy the Oneida you wiil be buying USA made and you know that you are getting one the best machines out there according to most people. If you buy the cheaper machine you will always wonder if the other one would've worked better for you. Buy the best you can afford and you will probably never regret it or look back.

I upgraded to a cyclone a couple of years ago. Both companies were great to work with. I had to shoehorn the collector into a tight space and was able to receive CAD pdfs and other details from both to determine fit. The decision was easier for me though, as the Onieda was the only one that worked in the space I had.
The service from Onieda was top notch. At some point UPS had dropped the motor/fan assembly, which rammed the impeller against the motor mounting bolds. I called Onieda, they said to email them a picture for thier shipping claim and then they sent out a new one. They did all the dealings with UPS.
Though I would be inclined to go again with Oneida, the Grizzly probably would work just fine. Either one will be a significant upgrade from a bag type or no collector.
Probably more important is to make sure your duct work and dust hoods are well designed and correctly sized, otherwise the system won't work well, no matter the collector brand.
One last word of caution, be sure to regularly check how full your bag/barrel is. 55 gallons of compacted saw dust weighs a lot:)
