Does anyone have any experience with grizzly brand router bits? Are they good or bad?
Toolcrib has some decent prices right now on their router bits and was wondering if it would be worth it to buy them?
thanks

They (Grizzly) sells two different lines of router bits, the green ones and the purple ones, purple being higher grade. I'd be inclined to buy directly from Grizzly, that way if they're not satisfactory, you can deal with them rather than ToolCrib (Amazon) with the problem.
I'm a Grizzly customer, but don't use their router bits. Gravitate toward Woodline and MLCS for less expensive bits, especially their sets.

thanks, I'm not a fan of buying things simply because they are cheap, but the prices were so appealing...
Do ToolCrib's prices beat Grizzly-direct ordering? Wonder how that happened, LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
that I don;t know, I never thought of buying a grizzly bit before, seems toolcrib has some sales going on grizzly stuff at the moment..
I usually buy whiteside or freud, no experience with many others except the odd bit here and there.
I've got one Grizzly router bit and it's been ok. That said, I tend to agree with Forestgirl, because I've had alot more experience with the MLCS bits and have come to trust them when I need a decent quality "value" bit. For heavy use bits I prefer Whiteside, but they're alot more $.
I have a few of their green ones and have no complaints. I bought their 1/2" shank lock miter bit for wood < 5/8", and did about 80 linear feet of honduras mahogany with it, then lent it to a friend who did a couple of wenge & padauk jewelry boxes, and as far as I can tell it's still good as new.
One reason for the longevity might be that at day's end I clean all the router bits and shaper cutters I used that day with a brass wire "toothbrush" under running water, dry and put away.
CAG,
I have no personal experience witih Grizzly router bits. However, their prices are not really less than a couple of other very good brands.
I have been very happy withg MLCS bits, which are about the same price as Grizzly, and there is much more variety. Check them out here (http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/).
I have also been happy with Oldham Viper bits, which are sold at Home Depot. The problem with Oldham Viper is that there isn't much variety.
I have absolutely no idea about Grizzly router bits, but go Hawks. The very little that I have seen UAB play scares me, if you can't survive the press, you aren't going to beat them. But truth be told I would much rather play them over Kentucky any day, though I think Kentucky may have been a bit overrated this year.
As a U-Dub fan, I saw more UAB action than was pleasant! Wow!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I didn't see the Washington UAB game, but wish that I had. High scoring game. I hate the way that CBS switches between games when you are watching a nail biter. It doesn't seem to matter if there is 10 seconds left in a game and the score is tied, all of the sudden they just switch on you. Why would I want to see a few seconds of another game that I haven't been watching? Very distracting.
I don't know anything about UAB, I wanted Kentucky though, I think we could have taken them, and I want blood from when they knocked up out a few years back....
The only Grizzly router bits I saw doing a quick Amazon search were the 1/4" shank plywood bit set. Is that what you're looking at? For me, 1/4" shank disqualifies them from consideration.

nah, I looked a bit further then that, they had some others, mainly a classical bit selection 4 bits, about 45 bucks or so, not a real stellar price but good enough for me to look at, and a rabbit set around 20 bucks if memory serves.
as a side I don't like 1/4" bits much either, I do have the freud 1/4" plywood set though and no real problems other then i can never find my 1/4" collet for the router
I don't know if this transfers but I have about 10 Grizzly shaper bits and they do a very nice job for not alot of money.
This is not production but casual use.

Router bits need to be sharp to work well. any bit after about 200 to 300 bd.ft. of routing will be dull. Since it costs a fair amount to sharpen bits (almost half the cost of new bits) I'm in favor of any bit that cuts a clean profile and lasts at least 300 feet..
So far the bit's I've bought from Grizzley have more then met my requirement. I did use several more expensive bits but sure enough after 250 to 300 feet they showed signs of dullness.
I have friends who claim they sharpen their own bits but somehow the resultant bits don't seem to cut as long or as well as professionally sharpened bits..
Not terribly scientific but it's what I've seen..
Buy the MCLS set of 30 for $99. Includes shipping. I got mine about a month ago and have used about 10 bits already. They seem very good for the money...As well, I am a Nevada alum and we my be headed for another showdown if we get past GT, and you past UAB....Go Wolfpack.....Don
