Grizzly has apparently begun shipping to Canada. Which may not seem like a big deal to some… But strangly up here in the frozen north we just don’t have the same selection…

But, don't they paint 'em
But, don't they paint 'em white for up there? ;-)
Why bother? Camouflage?
No, I was thinking the Grizzlies might turn into Polars up there. ;-)
White...
As an odd aside, looking at the current habitat map, there are very few actual grizzly's in the US:

Regarding the Temperature, it's been around around -4F since the begining of December. At one point it hit -22F here in Calgary... North where I grew up it was -51F, the second coldest recorded place on earth that day. Grizzly better put a parka on the table saw.
Yes, I agree. In fact, I was bemoaning that fact when last I spoke with Jeremiah Johnson in the high country, and shared some of his rabbit. ;-)
It seems that bears in general are being replaced with large populations of gummy bears along the coasts, and a smaller population of grumpy bears inland. Both of these new species bear a striking resemblance to over-populating humans. ;-)
But strangly up here in the frozen north ..
So cold here in Chicago USA.. I saw a Polar Bear wearing a white fur coat moving south to get a bit warmer...
Edit: I think one of them 1967? Huge snow's that I remember HERE back in 1967?
Been shoveling snow since about 4 AM.. Till I came here today.. I also do my two nextdoor neighbors also... I'm tired now... No snow blower... All by my hand. I HATE winter.. But for some reason I love shoveling snow?
Hmmm. Yesterday, I drove to work with my window all the way down!
As long as you didn't stick
As long as you didn't stick your head out of the window, and bite at the wind, you're probably OK. ;-)
By looking at their shipping policies they still do not want to do business with us by dictating by who we have to use for shipping; the border gougers,UPS and which broker to use. sounds like they want a cut of the action
they won't take money orders.
certainly don't have problems with most US vendors like this

There is considerable discussion about this over at the Canadian Forum. Obviously UPS had a bad name with that crowd. Though the distinction has been made this is UPS Freight, with a separate broker. So they do not take care of the customs charges.
In the end as long as I know the charges up front I don't care. I prefer that they handle the paperwork.
As an aside, locally (in Calgary) it appears that Powermatic has become available and posiibbly Laguna.
what is the Canadian forum? there are quite a few different ways to get product into Canada other than UPS. and for smaller things you can clear them at customs right at Victoria airport. several times that I have gotten quotes from UPS they want you to bend over, like $400.00 and 600.00

The best woodworking forum is Canada is hosted by Canadian Woodworking. http://forum.canadianwoodworking.com/
UPS has a bad name in Canada because they charge a significant fee if they perform the customs brokerage function. I learned that lesson (the first time) when I ordered a couple of shirts that were being closed out from Duluth Trading. The shirts cost me $20 and UPS charged me $35 to handle the paperwork!
As I understand it the brokerage will be handled by Pacific Customs Brokers and the rates are reasonable. The shipping will be handled by UPS Freight rather than UPS Parcels. Supposedly, they are much better to deal with than the Small Parcels dipsticks.
I've made the 6-hour trip down to Muncie, Pa. from Ottawa and also looked into shipping heavy equipment to an FOB location just across the border for pickup my myself. The basic cost of clearance, renting a truck, gas and time makes the new Grizzly regime look very attractive. It will be nice to have an alternative to Busy Bee Tools's and King for Asian equipment. Grizzly's equipment seems to be made with more attention to detail and the landed price of Grizzly gear is now very attractive.

Ron
Ron,
You should look at driving to Bellingham and p/u at their store. They have a huge place their in Bellingham.
