Grizzly sliding extension table?
Hi folks
I’ve been thinking about getting a sliding extension table for my tablesaw (I have a 3hp Jet cabinet saw, about 2 years old), and I’ve been doing some reading about the various models available. Anybody have any experience or recall seeing reviews on Grizzly’s entry in this category (Model # G4227)?
It is attractively priced at $269, but I’ve been around the block just enough to be wary of paying a low price up front; typically I subscribe to the buy-good-tools-and-you’ll-be-glad-you-did school of thought, but I think that half the battle in this business is knowing which corners to cut and which not to. Not literally, that is a whole different discussion. Anyway, in my experience there are times to go whole hog and buy the nice, expensive model, and times when a person can do just fine with less– what experiences have you all had with sliding extension tables?
Looking forward to some opinions,

The grizzly is the same as the delta which you can read a review of on my web site. You can also see the "survey of sliding tables" article I have there as well if you are interested.
Basically the unit is okay, not particularly wonderful but it has a lot of potential. You can spend more on a slider but keep in mind that they all come up a little short of perfection.
Whether it's the grizzly unit or another, a sliding table is a very worthwhile accessory. If you get one you'll never want to go back to not using one.

Phil,
I've been reading your exceptional articles on sliding table says. I have one question if you don't mind. Do you think the grizzly model will bolt up to a contractors saw? I have the Jet saw and I'm about to start making our kitchen cabinets so I know a sliding table would be a big help. I've had trouble getting through to grizzly with this...
Thanks for any info you can provide, and again, for your thorough tests and evaluations of the different sliding saw outfits!

According to what I remember about this model, delta says that it will not bolt up to their latest splayed leg version of contractor saw but it does to their older model. I believe the jet legs are like the old delta type so I don't think there will be a problem getting it to work for you. You might have to drill some holes in the legs though. I actually don't see why it would be a problem on the new delta either though.
Even in the regular position the crosscut capacity is over 25", in the "forward" position it will crosscut a lot more.
Having done cabinets before and after a sliding table I know you'll appreciate it for your kitchen project, no matter which one you get.

Phil,
Thanks for your kind reply. I'll be giving Grizzly a call Monday morning and try get a feel if they've sold there sliding unit to other contractor saw owners. Thank you for verifying what looks like a real possibility to me.
Best regards,
Dave Esposito.
What is the crosscut capacity of the unit? If you plan to build cabinets, it would be real handy to be able to cut at least 25". I installed a 60" Exaktor and I can say it was money well spent until I can afford better. It can be extremely accurate, and it's also very handy for mitreing counters.
