Any feedback on the Grizzly#H2854 1HP Plunge Router, maybe also as compared with Bosch Colt Variable Palm. Anyone used the Japanese Chisels they carry. Will it ever stop raining here in N.Cal. May be time to move back up to the Great NorthWest, at least there’s still affordable housing…isn’t there. Thanks y’all.

"...Great NorthWest...at least there's still affordable housing...isn't there" Hah! That's the comedy line of the week!!! ROFL, "affordable."
Making full disclosure I've never even seen the Grizzly 1HP plunge, still I would bet a ton (of what I won't say) it can't hold a candle to the Bosch Colt in quality. But they're not really designed for doing the same thing are they?
These two items sound familiar -- I think there's been stuff posted about them before, you might want to be the first to take the new search for a spin.

A good general rule is Bosch good, Grizzly junk.
You started it, don't expect to come out of this unscathed.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
"A good general rule is Bosch good, Grizzly junk." While I can't testify to the accuracy of the "junk" adjective (personally, I reserve that severe term for Harbor Freight power tools), I have no faith at all that Grizzly could put out a router as nice as the Colt on-the-cheap (~59% of the Colt price). We all know that Bosch makes a great router, so why take the chance?
Funny, nobody's replied to his question about the Japanese chisels. Probably not many buyers out there?
As to the rain in Patrick's original post -- Patrick don't bother coming up here this week. The rain moves in tonight and will be with us at least through Easter. forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The high end Grizzly tools such as the table saws, jointers and bandsaws are far from junk. I own a Griz table saw, and I would put it up against any the same HP Unisaw or 66. The jointers are pretty nice as well. Many of the hand tools and power tools (drills, palm sanders, etc) are not as bad as HF, but they aren't great either.

I got the Bosch VSR colt -- it was nice in many ways, but the on/off switch would get clogged with shavings and that made it hard to turn the router off. I returned the Colt and picked up the Dewalt. The Dewalt is noisier, it's height adjustment poorer, it lacks a carrying case, and the base does not sit very well, as it can easily be off kilter. But you can turn it on/off safely, so I'll be holding on to it.
BTW, all routers I've seen so far in this class have restricted visibility at the base. I plan to check out the new PC commercial trimmer (310?) at some point, but for now the Dewalt is doing the job.
Summary: the Colt excels in many ways but has a fatal design flaw in the switch. Avoid it if you ever plan to do anything more than trim laminate (routing small mortises for door hardware will lead to the problem I had).
