Has anyone had any trouble with Quick release bench vises? I have recently installed two Groz 9″ vices but one will not hold in position. This is not caused by holding the clamped material on one side but occurs when everything is centraly held. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had a Groz vise purchased from Woodcraft. The two faces were not parallel with one another. It was taken back a few days short of the one year guarantee. Another customer said she worked at a Rocklers and they got back a lot of returns on the Groz vices. It was very pleasing to get my cash back. Even if you do not have the receipt the company should have your purchase in their computer for a return. Woodcraft seems to have a reasonable return policy.
Could I ask what was your choice of vise to replace the Groz?
I am not an equipment expert. Two of my better wood vices are Records that were bought at yard sales-Irwin may have bought them out. Jorgensons sold by Woodcraft may be a decent replacement. A good vise is a joy to use and you use it almost daily. I have a few old clunkers for simple glue ups for woodturning. A quick release is handy on at least one large wood vise. I have access to a used tool store in Worcester, Ma (the Toolshed) where I get used tools. There is a large machinists vice in my shop that was used for $75. The magazines probably have some new ones reviewed or you can search the forums for old topics. I have lots of vices.
Thanks for yor comments. As I'm in Australia I'll have to look a bit harder to find the variety that you seem to have in US.
regards, Keith
