Iv’e got a smoothing plane that says “Fulton No.3709 BB” on the side. Does anyone know about Fulton or is another cheap plane?
Jase–Is there a better way?

I don't have any reference for your catalog or stock number. Fulton was a Sears brand name and several vendors made planes for sears. I don't know who made those that have a stamped steel frog and don't think those planes are worth the effort to figure out much about them. Those with a cast iron frog were probably made by Stanley or Sargent and are decent planes. If the is cast and the lateral adjustment lever is stamped steel bent into an upside down "U" shape the plane was made by Sargent and a similar plane with a twisted steel lateral adjustment lever is twisted to create a grip the plane was made by Stanley. I think Great Neck made some Craftsman planes in recent years but, I believe, these had a Craftsman logo.
Thanks LarryJase--Is there a better way?
Jase,
Hmmm, my editing seems to be as screwed up as my ability to write. The sentence that begins, "If the is cast and the lateral adjustment lever is stamped steel ...." should read: If the frog is cast iron....
Sorry about that!
