Can any one tell me where I can get brass thumb screws, & knurled brass fittings

for making my own hand tools?

Not sure what fittings you have in mind, but MSC has brass thumbscrews.

i have has to make many of the brass parts that i've needed for my compasses, etc.

brass is very soft, and can be machined quite easily.
