hand writing a small message on a project
Hi,
I am building a toy box/ chest for my 3rd Grandchild for her first Christmas. Why I didn’t think of this for my first 2, I am kicking myself.
I want to write, “Merry 1st Christmas Nora, Love “P” on the bottom right above my brand. What would you use that would not smear with the application of the finish? I am using Rubio MonoCoat. As I type this, I realize I could test a Sharpie, but I’ll ask anyway if anyone has a good idea.
Thanks.
Kevin

I have used a sharpie and it will smear with a brush on varnish. Maybe if you let it dry for a couple of days first. I had better luck with a couple of coats of rattle can spray over the letters first. I wasn't using Rubio so make sure its compatible.
the "let it dry a few days" is a great idea. I'll give that a test! Thanks
Use a pyrography pen. You could also us a small pen like soldering tool to do it on the cheap.

interesting, never crossed my mind, but I'll consider it if the above doesn't work. Thanks
I've done pencil covered by shellac.
Pyrography.
I had a little brass plate engraved with name and date and screwed on. Just another idea.
I have had good results using India ink. You can find felt tip pens that use India ink at arts and crafts stores. I've used shellac, lacquer, and poly over it with no bad effects. Seal the wood with something first for smoother application.
Paint pen after applying the finish works best for me. I like the goldleaf pen you can find at Lowe’s.
