handleless cabinet door – DIY ikea voxtorp?
I noticed some cool cabinet doors at IKEA-they are flat slab style with a routed groove that serves as a built-in handle. The slab is 7/8″ thick to accommodate this.
They are charging $153 (!!) for one 10″ x 36″ drawer front. Insanity.
Want to figure how to make this, but prefer to have a 45 degree slant and possibly metal hardware to protect the wood and give a larger grip area for pudgy fingers instead of routing into the slab.
Has anyone done this? Any tips or leads to hardware sources would be appreciated.

My first thought is to make it from two pieces of plywood. The face of the door would be 5/8 ply and have the 45 degree chamfer cut into the edge. The back of the door is 1/4 ply. Once glued together, they make a 7/8 thick door.
With a little extra work, you could biscuit on a piece of solid wood to the edge of the 5/8 ply and cut the 45 degree chamfer into the solid wood. Then glue the 1/4 ply back on as before.
At the Ikea factory, it's probably done with a heavy-duty shaper equipped with a custom cutter head and a power feeder - $$$$$$$.

Hello,
Yes, it is possible to make your own cabinet doors with a similar design to the ones you saw at IKEA. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Materials: You will need a flat slab of wood that is at least 7/8" thick to accommodate the routed groove. Look for a wood species that is suitable for cabinetry, such as oak, maple, or birch.
Hardware: You can use metal hardware to protect the wood and give a larger grip area. Look for edge pulls or recessed pulls that can be attached to the top or bottom of the door. You can also use finger pulls that are routed into the side of the door.
Design: To achieve a 45-degree slant, you will need to cut the top and bottom edges of the door at a 45-degree angle. You can use a table saw or miter saw to make these cuts. Once the cuts are made, you can attach the hardware to the top or bottom of the door.
Finishing: Sand the door smooth and apply a finish of your choice, such as stain or paint.
As for hardware sources, you can check out hardware stores, woodworking supply stores, or online retailers. Some popular hardware brands for cabinetry include Blum, Hafele, and Grass. hope so it is useful.
