Hello John White,
Over the past four years, I have been diligently woodworking and collected every kind of handtool I could get my hands on. I mean every kind of chisel, plane, saw, and accessories by Lie Nielsen or Veritas. I kept everything in crisp working condition with a large tool chest and leather covers. However, I recently decided to pursue work opportunities abroad and completely quit woodworking because it is just too difficult to find space or the means to transport the tools. Furthermore, I am going to sell all of my top-of-line tools. Do you know the best way to sell them? Or anyone who might be interested? I am looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Joe S.

Joe,
With the economy down it will be harder perhaps to get the prices you would have gotten a few years ago, but top of the line brands should still get good prices. You best bet to set the prices is to learn how to use Ebay and get yourself set up as a registered seller so you can see what the same tool has sold for in the past 30 days.
Actually selling on Ebay is a whole other matter, if you don't take high quality photos and do clear write ups ups you may not get nearly as much as a tool is worth. You will also have to deal with cranky buyers, collecting payments, and shipping and insuring once the item is sold, and you can get scammed. My wife and I sell vintage clothing and tools on Ebay and it is hard work, we charge a hefty percentage to sell for somebody else because there is so much work involved. If you decide to have someone Ebay for you make sure they are legit and take a look at what they are currently selling, the photos and descriptions should look like something out of a tool catalog.
Your best bet, once you have set the prices, would be to sell them through something like the classifieds here on Knots, you will be selling to a knowledgeable, (and one would like to think) honest and fair, clientele. You can try to sell locally either through classifieds or by having a garage sale. If you do have a garage sale and advertise it well, be prepared for a mob scene before the sale is even supposed to start, have lots of help.
Beware of checks and credit card payments, they need to clear your bank or Paypal for at least a week before actually shipping something, the bank and Paypal will pull the funds for a "cleared" but bogus check or charge back out of your account.
You might start out trying to sell the tools as a single collection first, one buyer and it is done, even if you sell for less than you might make selling the tools piecemeal.
Hope this helps and Good Luck,
