Harbor Freight DC for ab’t 1/2 price
After reading a lot of buzz on another forum, I just ordered a Central Machinery 2 hp dust collector, which lists for about $200, for $120 + $6 shipping. The page showing model 45378-2VGA has the higher price, but when you fill in the item number at “Order From Printed Catalog”, the price shows as $119. I wouldn’t have known this without reading about it on a forum, since no mention is made anywhere on HF’s site about a sale. While I doubt the motor is a real 2 hp continuous (14A at 115V, which is more consistent with standard eff. 1.5 hp), or that the air flow is as specified (1600 cfm), for the price I don’t think I could go too wrong. It’ll sit right next to the saw and jointer. I will have to upgrade the bags and possibly use a garbage can separator, but I would do that with most others of this style anyway. It looks just like the 1.5 hp Grizzly (which also draws 14A at 115V). I normally don’t like buying cheap, but being not much more than an impeller on a motor shaft, hopefully not much could go wrong. Once I’ve used it a bit, I’ll post a followup.
This stealth sale is rumored to end November 1, in case anyone is interested.
Be seeing you…

I agree that's a good price for such a piece of equipment. I couldn't get it to come up at $119, even by clicking the "Order from printed catalog" button. I called the 800 number and they gave me the $119 price.

That does sound like a pretty good deal. I have ordered from Harbor Freight before, and wasn't completely satisfied with the quality. Do please let us know how you like the DC. Might order one myself.
By the way, would "be seeing you" be an obscure "Prisoner" reference??

I'm nervous about their stuff too, but not too much can go wrong with a fan on a motor shaft, except maybe the motor. I was going to build a cyclone (Wood Mag), but I'll give this a try first. I'll build a closet (in my basement shop, which I was going to do anyway for the cyclone) with sound insulation and 1 or 2 micron return air filters from a Delta/Jet air cleaner in the door, along with new bags, and see what happens. I don't think I'd buy something that cuts wood from them, though, without seeing it work first.

Yes, it is! You're the first to notice (or at least mention) it. I thought for sure someone would mention it when Leo McKern died and it was discussed next door on Breaktime a while back. I left a cryptic post regarding Leo having played Number 2 (twice) on that series. I was a big Secret Agent (Danger Man in the UK), The Prisoner, and in general Patrick McGoohan fan. It wasn't a very well known series, though highly acclaimed, as you probably already know. I was a kid when it originally aired, and I remember none of my classmates having any idea what I was talking about (about almost anything, come to think of it). To them, Rover was a dog and The Village was Greenwich Village. Oh, well. Six of one....

Where am I?

What do you want?
- Information
You won't get it.

Who are you?
- You are number 6.
I am not a number, I am a FREE MAN!!!
I've watched that show for over 3 or 4 episodes and never caught the thread. I'm glad it has a fan base. It always seemed like a backdrop for displays of angst.
From Dr. Who to Hercule Poirot I eat up that minimalist TV format. The Prisoner always escaped me.

I'm also feeling the urge to visit North Wales in 2003.

iT IS A dam good DEAL...I got it about a month ago, having it hitched up to my table saw and planer, it is smooth running and NOT shoddy construction. VERY GOOD suction....I don't usually buy HF at all but I could not resist this one..
Glad I did
Good to hear. Mine's on the way.

Ditto what Rich Rose said. And even if I wanted to return it (I haven't gotten it yet, of course, and I understand demand is so high they're backordered), I understand their return policy is very generous. I don't know how HF is making money at that price. And what's the story with this, and presumably other, hidden sales? I wonder what else might be had there at bargain prices. Be seeing you...
