Hello Folks,
I have a live edge walnut slab, and I find the sap wood to be softer than the hardwood, I plan to use winmax wood hardener(any other suggestions are welcome too) around the edges of the slab, but i am unsure when should i apply the coat, should it be after I sand it to the final grit before applying finish or can i do it before? I also see some cracks on the sides, should they be filled probably with CA glue or epoxy, before or after applying the wood hardener?
Suggestions please 🙂

Although, I love the stuff, but depending on what you plan to use as a finish, Wood Hardener may not be the answer. It will fill all of the pours and make no finish penetrate. It might also make it a different color, darker, I would assume.
So, honestly, unless the wood is really punky, I'd think long and hard about Wood Hardener.
I plan to use rubio monocoat as finish. What other options do we have to harden the sap wood? Its not that soft, but there is a difference when compared to the heartwood
You can't harden wood. You just can't. Unless the wood has started to actually rot.
That wood hardener won't penetrate any more than any finish would. It won't "harden" the wood any more than laquer or poly will.
Have you used that Rubio monocoat before? It won't do any hardening. It's just linseed out and wax. They call it monocoat because you can only use one coat. Nothing will stick to it, and it won't even stick to itself. So if you aren't happy, you'll have a lot of sanding to do.
I wanted to use winmax as hardener and then rubio as finish. Looks like unless the wood is rot, which is not in my case, and it wont penetrate any deeper than the finish based on previous comment, there is no need for any hardener. there are hairline cracks on the edges, which I believe can be filled with CA glue. And finally a single coat of rubio as finish ?
