Hardware for Heirloom Tool Chest
I am in the final stages of completing a Heirloom Tool Chest based on the Fine Woodworking article by Chris Gochnour in the March April 2004 addition. At the end of the article Chris covers the installation of hardware but only refers to the items in very general terms and states that they are available from Whitechapel. I have checked out the Whitechapel website and was not able to determine the right handles, hinges and lid stay to use to complete my project. Can anyone help me with this or make recommendations,.

Hi Rob - I can't say to a certainty, but after closely scrutinizing Gochnour's Pdf with respect to the chest, particularly the photographs, this is the best I could come up with from Whitechapel's website.
I hope this helps. If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected soon enough.

Thanks for the help. I'm checking your recommendation out now. They look great.
I am starting the Heirloom Tool Chest as we speak. While I haven't looked at the Whitechaple site, I plan on purchasing these drop handles from Lee Valley.

This remiendos me it’s a good idea to buy all the hardware before you even start.
Sometimes the hardware affects design or build aspects.
For most projects I buy my hardware from Horton Brasses. Not sure if they will have the style you are looking for here but worth a look.
Thanks to all for the comments. The folks at Whitechaple helped out also. The hardware is on the way.
Being in Poway you may want to make a run to San Diego Hardware (their online site is better developed now so maybe surf instead of drive). They had an amazing variety of modern and period stuff when I visited.
Rob,
My first woodworking course was in 2007 building this chest with Chris at the Marc Adams school. I used different handles but I know for sure he used the White Chapel mortise lid stay and box stop hinge mentioned in the above links. Good luck with your build, it's a great chest.
