My next project will have a vertical lid that will open like a pick up truck gate.
I am looking for some kind of hardware that will slow down the falling of the lid.
Possibly something that would be easy to hide. Something mechanical perhaps ? With some sort of gear ?
A key word to start a search would help as well.
Thanks,
C.

Take a look at Lee Valleys hardware catolog they have a lot of items, the rockler catolog might as well. You might look under the heading of toy chest hardware. Good luck

Try Woodworkers Hardware or Woodcraft. I think both handle the hardware you want. May not be the best quality if you are building something where you need the best!
Hi C ,
Depending on how much weight will be supported , several variations are available . the hardware that gets used on Murphy beds is designed similarly .
Motor homes and some RVs utilize a garage door like hinge with adjustable springs , the heaviest duty I have seen are gas filled like a shock absorber . The car rear hatch type supports also can work as lid supports
Search : Toy / blanket chest support hinges / self balancing
luck be with you dusty
All the major hardware mfg. have hinges and gas/hydraulic kits. Blum, Hafele, etc. make them. Richelou handles Blum. Go to http://www.woodweb.com and go to the hardware finder section. If you were closer to me I could pick them up for you.
