I’ve heard of two things to lay down on the subfloor before installing the 2 1/4″ oak T&G strip flooring. 1. The heavy pink thick paper. 2. 15lb. felt. I have both which should I use? Going down over 2 X 10 southern yellow pine floor joists on 16″ centers with 23/32″ OSB T&G sheathing, Yes to dry basement. Also how many nails ?

Bruce,
I have always used 15# felt because I think it will help eliminate squeaks between two wooden surfaces and it is a vapor barrier to help reduce water absorption from a humid basement. If I were you I would rent one of the angled air nailers for flooring. It will make your job a lot easier. I usually nail 16"oc, but if you have shorts just break them into thirds.
Thanks, What you said is what I had in mind. Just wanted confirmation. Especially the air assisted nailer !
How did you finish ? I plan on a lite waterbase dye, Then water based Crystalac Poly-ox Polyurethane.Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
