I am looking for a good source of hardwood lumber (Cherry) in central to eastern MA. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Not sure if I want to start buying over the Internet.
Thanks
Steve

I generally buy from Downes and Reader (http://www.downesandreader.com/). They are in Stoughton. Not sure if they are the cheapest, but definitely have a great selection. They carry both rough and surfaced lumber.
Good luck,
Tim
Have you tried Righteous Woods? Their web site is

They are in Rowley, MA. Last time I visited my folks in MA I went in there. They have a nice selection of various stuff. I picked up some small turning pieces since I still needed to fly back home to NC.
I forgot about this site to. This should give you information specific to your location since you can search by zip code.

This great.
Thanks Tim!
I've bought lumber from Highland Hardwoods in Brentwood, NH (about halfway between Manchester and the coast). They seem to have a decent selection and there's no sales tax in NH. Saturdays are busy though.

Hey Steve,
Used to live in that area. A place called Northland Forest Products in Kingston N.H. had the BEST hardwoods around. About 50 mins from Boston. Rte. 495 to Haverhill/ Plaistow N.H. exit-Rte 125 north to Kingston. It's been a while, but they were my #1 source.
Good luck,
-Paul
These guys have a lot of hardwoods. I found a 40" wide piece of mahogany here once.

Have you tried Heritage WoodWrights in Freetown?
I go to Highland Hardwoods frequently and like their selection.
Northland Forest Products in Kingston, NH may have better prices though. I plan on checking them out soon for my next project.
For 4/4 rough cherry it's $5.50/bf at NFP and $6.30 at Highland.
4/4 rough curly maple is $4.50/bf at NFP and $5.25 at Highland.
Fortunately I live in NE Mass., fairly close to both.
There are some very good suggestions already but I concur with the gent who mentioned Northland Forest products. I would be willing to bet that most of the places mentioned buy their lumber from Northland. It's a huge operation with half of one building dedicated to the public--retail. They are a couple miles away from Highland Hardwoods and the prices are the best around with no sales tax. Make sure you bring a list and a limited amount of money so you don't look to your left and grab some 8/4 walnut or some 6/4 cherry or.......before you know it your truck is full.
