I’m looking for a hardwood supplier in the Western MA/Albany NY area. I’m not usually in the market for more than 25 – 100 bf at a time, usually cherry or maple. I’ve bought from places that will ship through the internet with good luck (West Penn Hardwoods), but they’ve discontinued free shipping on 25 bf orders due to increased cost, which makes buying small amounts of rough lumber more expensive than buying finished lumber from Woodcraft. Thoughts?

There used to be a place called Amherst Woodworking in Northampton, MA. I looked it up and they still sell wood under the Copperbeech name.
Here is their Website.

There are undoubtedly others too.

Not real easy to find, but they probably have what you are looking for. Nice folks, 3 barns full of wood, sawmill services, kiln drying, if nothing else its a great place to snoop around in. Burls, figured wood regular stuff, filches, whole log- I love this place. When I have a day off and can spare the time I go there and just hang around. I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself. HTH

I'll check out Berkshire Products in Sheffield - sounds like the kind of place I'm looking for. I've been to Amherst Woodworking before - had variable luck finding rough lumber and the finished stuff seems a little over priced to me. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Not sure how far west you are, but the guys at Newport Nautical Timbers in Bristol, Rhode Island, have always treated me nice. Reasonable prices and quality wood as well.

Ghent Wood Products in Ghent, NY. Have a good selection of domestics rough and S2S. About 25 miles southeast of Albany, 20 miles from Great Barrington/Sheffield area
Berkshire Products in Sheffield is always awesome. A little pricey but everything I've ever purchased from them has been excellent. Fun place to just go and spend an hour or two looking at their crazy slab inventory or see what they're milling up.
Oleksak Lumber Company in Westfield MA, they have a good selection and good prices.
14-year old thread. Not a record but pretty old.
Did not see the start date lol
Excellent question! I have the same for Southern California. I'm new to
furniture making, but have only found a few good local sources. Any
help would be much appreciated!
