You might have trouble finding people there lol. But seriously, have you tried http://www.woodfinder.com?
I have two good choices. I don't know how much you know about roanoke, but one is there close and one is up in Floyd. Floyd is un in the hills above roanoke on the blueridge parkway. I had to move away two years ago and have missed it since. I'll have to hunt it down tomorrow, but I'll get back to you. I still look at the want ads for roanoke hoping some day to get back there. You are a lucky dog.
Here is one. They have a good selection and supply most of the custom cabinet shops for miles. They have an excellent selection of quality hardwood plywood. I bought about $300 red oak from them just before I moved. I did not think my company would move that with me, but they did. They are located close to the civic center across from interstate 581

Here is the second choice. Drop him a line. If he is still in business, he's worth the trip. He's a bit off the beaten path, but good lumber at excellent pricess. Most of his stuff is all local.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Thanks. I have heard about the guy in Floyd, but haven't made the trip.

Great guy to work with and reasonable prices. The other location I mentioned prices were close and It was 10 minutes from the house so by the time I factored in gas it was cheaper. The guy in Floyd had some of the widest and longest poplar I'd ever seen. Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Biscardi,
I have recently been purchasing lumber from the Steve Wall lumber company just over the line in North Carolina. They have an informative web site (http://www.walllumber.com/default.asp ). If you drive it is about an hour and a half but their selection and prices have made it worth the price of gas recently.
Welcome to Roanoke! I live near Cave Spring in southwest county. Hope you enjoy it here.

With all those mountains, how could he not! Go Hokies!!!!!!!!111Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I will be in Boone's Mill. I know a great place for hardwoods in Fisherville (near Waynesboro).
Frank
Fishersville is probably about the same distance as Myodan (Steve Wall Lumber). The selection of hardwoods is limited to domestic lumber here in town though you can get mahogany. I would like to know the name of the company you have used in Fishersville. Sometimes I have to go up to that area for business and I could always work in a trip to a lumberyard. There is also a Woodcraft store in Roanoke, near the Valleyview mall. The guys there are very helpful.I have tried to find a small sawyer to mill for figured and unusual wood. I have not had much luck with that.Tim
