Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone on Knots has any knowledge/experience with Harris Tools planes? How are they in relative terms (i.e., are they “just as good”, “not as good”, “better than” other companys’ offerings of modern Norris/Spiers copies and/or infills) ? Also how are they in absolute terms (example: “They are GREAT!!!”) ?
I am considering purchasing their jointer and am, therefore, very concerned with how it stacks up against other modern Norris/Spiers copies or infills. I would imagine that any opinions on their other planes would be helpful (in attempting to determine their quality).
The only thing that I am certain of is that they are really pretty … and expensive!
Thanks.

I have not ever used or seen one of their planes before so I don't know how they would compare to either original infills or new ones. I am told that they do have a distrubutor in Miami though who often markets them on ebay. Sorry, that is all I know about them.
Cheers, Konrad
Hi Konrad,
Indeed ... and eBay is exactly how I got snagged (pretty much half the regular retail price- how could I pass it up???).
Of course, sanity has raised its ugly head and asked "So what if it is half-price?! Perhaps the 'regular retail price' is 400% too high to begin with!"
Ugh.
Please- if anyone knows ANYTHING about them, let me know. I am having an awful feeling that I have big-time goofed.
Thanks.
I take it you spent the bucks already? Sorry, I too know little about them. I've seen them on Ebay, look great, but thats the extent of my experience. I am very curious however, so if you are getting one, please tell us about it when you get it!aka Steve
