Have One of These in Your Shop?
I was doing a search on Google for antique saws, and I came across this interesting little tool.

I hear the kickback can be nasty!

Matthew, Looks like a Pain In The A%$ to use. Ouch, corny....
Bioman,
This was a popular item until they started overcharging on the accessories. It also got a bad review in The Medieval Woodworker magazine.
They are being sold in the Lee Galley catalouge.
You guys are all SICK :-) (and to think, I laughed at all of your posts. I guess that makes me just as bad).
Thanks for a good chuckle...
Mark
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
Mark,
Hey, who's the sick one here -- is it us, or the manufacturer who made The Saw without splitters or blade guards? Do you know how many operators lost a finger with one of these?
Matt,
Showed this thread and your post to my wife. She chuckled too...After using one of those saws, can I say I'm "half the man I used to be."Mark

I hear Grizzly is going to carry a Taiwanese knock off at half the usual price...
Paul,
Will Grizzly also sell the riser block (for taller folks)?
Matthew,
Lie-Nielsen makes a reproduction of this saw but with an excelent depth control mechanism and the handles are solid cherry (Rosewood 25$ extra)
Veritas has come out with their own modern version of the saw with the Japanese style, cuts on the pull stroke, tooth pattern.
By the way, you're all a bunch of sicko's for laughing at these tasteless jokes.

brianmexico,
That's terrific! Who says hand tools aren't useful anymore.I hear there was a time when some people tried doing this with a power saw, but...well, the results were rather nasty.
Matthew,
There's a powered version offered by delta but I fould the dust extraction less than satisfactory because of repeated clogging.
Hand tools are just a little cleaner and you don't have to wear eye proteccion (ear proteccion in this case is recomended to drown out the screaming)
FWW should do a review on these things.
Brian
ummmm.... if I get one o these, can I practice using it on da management at work...????? Purely for educational purposes... of course... Ahem...
<figurin I might need to go through 4 or 5 before I get the hang of it.....
