Have You Heard of wood called “Jewbie”?
During a visit back to my hometown for “Mother’s Day”, I ran into an “Old Timer” who told me about some trees he had cut down.
At the rest home’s parking lot, there are trees that grow a “fig” like fruit. The old guy called them “Jewbie Trees”. Spelling is by sound only, but the wood within these trees made me wonder what the actual name is and if anyone has experience with this wood?
Thanks,
Bill

Piccioni,
I believe you hit the nail on the head! The leaves and fruit looks like the tree I saw. Is there any good wood in a 12" dia. for resawing or turning? I have a chance to getting some trunk sections.
Thanks,
Bill
Whoa!
I have no idea - I was intrigued by your question and remembered hearing or reading the name jujubi tree a number of years ago and googled that name.
Unfortunately, the ability to remember otherwise useless information is a talent which only exhibits itself sporatically.
In any event, I only knew the name, and, vaguely, that it was some sort of fruit treee, and went from there. I don't know anything about its wookworking characteristics.
Hopefully, somebody else can answer that question. Personally, I'd take the wood and give it a try.
I'm surprised you'd see 12" diameter on a fig tree, though.
Thanks for clearing up a 20 year old mystery for me. When I lived in Oregon I came across some trees with what I thought were figs on it. Real carefully I tried a small nibble and it tasted pretty good so I ate some more. I always thought they might have been figs but wasn't too sure they grew in OR. Your pic just cleared it up - it was definitely a jujubi tree.
If you build it he will come.
